A Story of 2 Children
by Rhonda Stout
My God is an awesome God, but I do not always understand his ways...Maybe I should just trust him and leave it at that . This is the story of 2 young children.
The first little girl is named Sophia. She was wearing a green dress. She had little braids and a mom who loved her. However, her hair was turing red from malnutrition because she did not have enough of the right types of food to eat. The nurse at the clinic told me that her mom's milk had dried up and Sophia was suffering from an inadequate diet. We made arrangements for Sophia's mom to come and pick up a can of formula every 8 days for 5 months and felt like we were being God's hands and feet. The next day another baby came into the clinic, his name was Carl, he was 29 days old and the sickest child I have ever seen . His mom did not come with him to clinic. I do not know why. The nurse again called me back to discuss the situation. She said that he needed to go to the hospital but medical care is a luxury for the poor. A very small amount of money was needed for the nurse, driver, baby and aunt to travel by moto to Jacmel for help. Again we agreed to help. Off they went speedy quick to seek help. A couple hours later the nurse returned alone. I don't think little Carl survived the trip off the mountain. He was the tiniest baby I have ever held in my arms. I trust you Lord but I do not understand why.
