June 2011
The June 2011 mission team from Mountains to Mountains left Washington, DC, on June 23 and traveled to Miami before departing for Port au Prince on June 24. The purpose of this team's trip to Haiti was to visit some of the programs that Mountains to Mountains has supported and to build relationships with the people there. While in Haiti, the team visited Child Hope International, Real Hope for Haiti and Heartline Ministries. The group met Stephanie, a Haitian medical student who has recieved support through donations to Mountains to Mountains. They also met Claudette and her sister, Ti Rose. Claudette was badly burned after the earthquake and was recuperating at Real Hope for Haiti Rescue Center. Her sister, Ti Rose, came to Real Hope to help her sister heal and through contributions to Mountains to Mountains, Ti Rose was able to finish the school year. The group members were able to attend worship with teenage mothers from the Harbor House of Heartline Ministries at the Port au Prince Fellowship Church and enjoy the beautiful music and praise at this service. The group was able to see homes that had been built with money generously donated to Mountains to Mountains and to meet some of the students that members of Mountains to Mountains support. The team members met women who have been employed through the sewing and beading programs at Heartline. They also were able to participate in the feeding program at Child Hope International and spend the afternoon with the chidren who are served through the ministry there. At Real Hope for Haiti, the group was able to see the Cholera House and Rescue Center firsthand to see the lives being touched through the work being done there.
